India faces deep economic trouble says Shastri
Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri told the National Productivity Committee in New Delhi that India is in serious economic trouble and the situation will worsen. He cited food shortages, a foreign exchange crisis, late monsoon delays, and heavy reliance on US wheat imports averaging 600,000 tons monthly. He blamed unnecessary past imports for much of the problem and urged hard work over more holidays.
