Reading Reporters Conviction Voided in Reading Pa

Reading's Eagle and Times won a first test against Mayor Daniel McDevitt as Berks County Court set aside Charles H. Kessler's disorderly conduct conviction. Kessler, a Times reporter, was fined 50 dollars for posing on City Hall steps with a borrowed typewriter to protest press access after the press room was locked. The mayor ordered police to curb newspaper deliveries, delaying trucks, and blocked reports from rawl cars amid tensions over raids on local venues tied to a mayorally owned tavern.
