Atlanta reports 19 dead with many missing as high water expands in five southern states. Property losses reach 15 million dollars with rail lines and bridges damaged. Rescue parties search the Catawba near Belmont North Carolina while Asheville and Biltmore area see six fatalities. Debris and food shortages appear in Yadkin County. railroad service remains disrupted for weeks.
Severe flooding on the Yadkin River near Albemarle and Badin disrupts a new Aluminum Company of America dam project. A bridge was washed away and equipment from Hardaway Construction lost. Waters receded but risks to major steel and railway bridges remained, with the river still threatening the works.
Asheville reports four additional fatalities from the North Carolina flood. A Brevard message confirms John Heath and his mother, plus Mrs. Caldwell Santelle and child, died from injuries when their homes were swept by landslides four miles from Brevard.
