NCAA Moves To Curb Wildcat Bowl Promotions

The NCAA appoints a nine member committee to map standards for post season football games, aiming to limit the growing number of bowls from about six to 50 or more while guarding against promoter excess and ensuring charitable or worthy aims. The panel includes figures from the Pacific Coast Conference, Rice, Duke, Tulane, and others, with the effort to restrict games that do not meet standards. Proceeds and travel expenses of visiting teams are among issues cited in a survey of 17 traditional games conducted in 1948.
