President Eisenhower leaves for Geneva to attend the Big Four talks aiming at enduring peace. He will deliver a 15 minute radio TV address from the White House and travel via Iceland with Mrs. Eisenhower and Maj. John Eisenhower aboard the Columbine II. He arrives in Geneva tomorrow evening after stops at Keflavik and a two hour luncheon with Iceland’s President Assgeirsson.
Casablanca violence erupts after a Bastille Day bombing that killed six Europeans and injured 35 others. French residents clash with mobs, overturning shops and torched five Moroccan wholesalers stores as crowds protested nationalist tensions.
Paris dispatch by STANLEY JOHNSON notes Khrushchev will travel with Bulganin and Zhukov to Geneva as Moscow confirms a strong delegation. Analysts doubt Bulganin’s suitability yet expect concrete decisions at the Geneva talks despite Eisenhower calling the meeting exploratory.

A Federal Court in Columbia indicates it will order Summerton School District trustees to begin operating schools desegregated with all deliberate speed. The decree would bar segregated operation after necessary arrangements are made, though timing could span weeks to a year. Trustees favor a survey with UNC education and sociology departments to map a non discriminatory reorganization.
Fierce thunderstorms end an eight day heat wave in parts of Western Europe while Scandinavia bakes under a scorching sun. The death toll from drownings and storms rises to about 100 with six killed in Britain. Temperatures fall in many areas as Germany and Italy stay hot but expect calmer weather. The 7124 ton steamer Cygnet, abandoned after a collision in the Channel, was towed into Sandwich Bay after crew rescue.
Bonn Germany the Bundestag approved measures to call up the first 6 000 volunteers for the West German armed forces this summer. The panel with veto rights to approve officers was authorized and the volunteer bill allows enlistment of up to 6 000 volunteer specialists. both bills go to the Bundesrat for final approval on July 22.
Raleigh reports that the North Carolina attorney general’s office has reached no official conclusion on plans to preserve school segregation. Atty. Gen. W. B. Rodman said Lake’s private school charter idea is one of many proposals in Southern states. Lake spoke at an Asheboro club, stressing he acted as a private citizen. Gov. Hodges deferred comment to Rodman, who noted authorities differ and urged waiting for studies and ongoing suits.

ITAZUKE AIR BASE Japan The last huge plane in the greatest mass troop airlift in history is eastbound over the Pacific Ocean. When it reaches the United States Sunday two complete combat ready regiments will have exchanged places halfway around the world. The Army said Operation Gyroscope proved the feasibility of transporting battle ready men to any part of the world in a minimum of time. The last C124 Globemaster carried 69 men with arms and equipment of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team toward Ft. Bragg North Carolina to replace the 187th. Thirty six other Globemasters preceded it. They were among the 43 that brought the 08th RCT from Ft. Campbell Kentucky to Japan to replace the 187th, veteran airborne regiment of both World War I and the Korean War.
In Las Vegas Nevada a four day search ended with the body of 13 year old John Cooley beside a dirt road. A .22 rifle lay nearby and three notebook pages contained a farewell note. Deputies say he may have killed himself after learning his supposed father Avery Cooley was his stepfather. The note referenced family strictness and bore the line John Cooley or Beasley indicating uncertainty over a last name. The body was discovered by airmen from Nellis Air Force Base during a two mile sweep of the desert north of the city. The spokesperson noted the victim wore only shorts and a T shirt and appeared to have been alive when pursued by the searchers.
The CIO United Auto Workers set an August 1 strike vote at AMC plants in Milwaukee Kenosha El Segundo Detroit and Grand Rapids after talks broke down ahead of the five year contract expiration covering about 4000 workers. AMC disputes the union offer and wage cost implications while the union accuses AMC of dishonorable framing and breaking a news blackout.
Paris reports Western Foreign Ministers Dulles Macmillan and Pinay endorsed a definite topics list for Geneva talks with Soviet leaders. They plan to press German reunification European security and disarmament with Faure’s plan guiding aid for backward areas. Joint plans may be approved Sunday before Eisenhower Eden and Faure meet Kremlin bosses Monday.
A 35 year old war veteran Daniel G. McDaniel was charged with first degree murder after killing his 70 year old mother Bessie McDaniel. Police say the assault began after midnight with McDaniel chasing his mother through a torn and wrecked home ending with her dead at 3 am. Neighbors heard the disturbance and urged McDaniel to call police.
Esso Standard Oil Co. reduced wholesale gasoline prices by 3 10 to 1 cent per gallon in most Atlantic seaboard areas. Washington and Baltimore were exceptions where no cut was made. The move followed price reductions by Mobil Oil Co and was mirrored by Sinclair Oil Corp and Atlantic Refining in metropolitan New York and other markets.
