CHUNGHKING July 15 The Chinese acknowledged the loss of Wenchow seaport but vowed to intensify counterattacks with air support and prevent Japan from transferring troops out of China. The spokesman said Japanese forces in Chekiang and Kiangsi have been driven back, with Japanese attacks halted east of the Yuhua Mountains as fighting centers around Linchwan. He warned that the war's duration hinges on the next two to three months and urged Allied gains in the southwest Pacific to deliver a strategic blow to Japan.
Washington July 15 The military commission trying eight accused Nazi saboteurs implied it was hearing FBI reported confessions. The noon communique said today’s session was devoted to reading statements introduced by the prosecution and cross examination of witnesses who identified the statements. The court was told the government would continue its case for the next days as prosecutors present confessions allegedly given by all prisoners and possibly confederates. Equipment alleged to have been brought to the United States by the prisoners was shown in the courtroom.

W S Farish president of Standard Oil (New Jersey) told a House Mines subcommittee the petroleum industry has two new methods to produce synthetic rubber that could add 34 million tires by year end and provide 200000 tons more rubber beyond the current plan. He cautioned conservation and reduced driving, noting the new processes Flexon and Quick Butadiene may help meet civilian needs while military requirements remain primary.
Moscow July 15. German forces were repulsed on both north and south approaches to Voronezh after a heavy artillery assault and fresh infantry and tank support. Russian dispatches claim a costly German breakthrough near the western outskirts was checked as Soviet troops recaptured a railroad crossing and a bridge, while noting extensive German losses and depleted divisions. Fighting near Voronezh continues with varying success as reports indicate German reinforcements are being rushed to the front.
