Advanced diving course offered near Greensboro
The N C School of Diving in Greensboro provides a senior diving course certified by the National Association of Skin Diving Schools. Two Saturday classes at 10 am and 2 pm meet at McLeansville Quarry eight miles west of Greensboro. The course costs 40 dollars for five lessons and a night dive. Nixon Welfare Proposals And Current Family Aid Totals
President Nixon's welfare plan would pay a family of five $1,900 yearly if no breadwinner. It suggested $500 per person for the first two and $300 for each additional member, with no food stamp program. The House committee would merge this with the food stamp plan to add work incentives. The Social Services Department says current federal state county aid for a family of five ranges from $2,088 to $2,196 annually depending on schooling.

Fire Prevention Bureau Advises on Home Alarm Systems
The Fire Prevention Bureau urges buyers to follow National Fire Protection Association standards for home fire safety. A four point program includes minimizing hazards sleeping with doors closed having an escape plan and a fire warning system with heat detectors and smoke detectors between sleeping areas and the rest of the home.

Cambodians Regain Key Positions Near Resort Area
Cambodian infantry battled up Mt Kim Rom retaking key zones 50 miles west of Phnom Penh as fighting raged on. An enemy force of about 1000 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese assaulted a battalion HQ 25 miles south of Kim Rom, causing heavy casualties at Srak Neak before withdrawing with their dead and wounded. The conflict threatened Highway 4 and Cambodia's sole refinery at Kompong Som while a relief force of U S trained mercenaries reportedly retook the main hotel and other facilities.

Canadian freighter sinks in St Lawrence Seaway loss nine
A Canadian 359-foot freighter loaded with pig iron struck a shoal and sank within minutes in the St Lawrence Seaway. Nine believed drowned, seven bodies recovered. The captain and two women and two children among those aboard were lost. Survivors say crewmen were swept from decks as lifeboats were lowered. Ontario police rescued 12.

Nixon Meets Appalachian Governors
President Nixon met with Appalachian governors in Louisville to hear their plan for a regional commission under new federalism. Atom Bomb Developer Groves Dies
Retired Army Lt. Gen. Leslie R. Groves, who headed the World War II atomic bomb project, died Monday night at Walter Reed after a heart attack at age 73. He was reported ill at his apartment and died about 11 p.m. following admission to the hospital.
