In dense fog 18 miles southwest of the Golden Gate the freighter Jacob Luckenbach collided with the Hawaiian Pilot and sank minutes later. Coast Guard boats reached the scene as the Hawaiian Pilot reported lifeboats rescuing Luckenbach crew, all of whom were saved with no serious injuries. The Luckenbach, 7,869 tons, is owned by Luckenbach Steamship Co. of New York. the Hawaiian Pilot, 8,449 tons, is owned by Maison Navigation Co. of San Francisco.
