Randolph County 18 year old Eliptel Randolph won Miss North Carolina at the Saturday night pageant. Lisa Melton Miss Roanoke Rapids was first runner up, winning bathing suit and talent divisions. Mysterious lights seen by Pan Am pilot over Pacific
A Pan American Airways pilot reported seeing an object with bright lights flash by his plane over the Pacific. Capt. George Wilson said the lights, one very bright and several smaller, appeared to bear down then turn away abruptly at about 21 000 feet. He described it as moving faster than anything he had seen and noted the lights had no color. A Canadian Pacific Air Lines crew also sighted the object at similar distances from Honolulu.
