Burke county educator R L Patton was appointed acting president of Rutherford College with Prof Wade H Stemple named dean. The two will oversee faculty hiring as the school reopens this fall under the Western North Carolina Methodist conference. Stemple previously taught at Lenoir Rhyne and served on the Rutherford faculty last year.
Rob Warr, who refused to sign a government acreage contract, reports that a group of masked night riders shredded an estimated 82 000 worth of tobacco, threatening his wife Mrs. Warr and damaging seven acres in the Mechenicaville area. A son heard noises around 11 p.m. Wednesday as the attack occurred.
Mrs Idella May Ingram 62 widow of Gaston Ingram died at her residence 884 Howard Street shortly before 1 PM after declining health and a stroke. She was born in Henderson County to Erastus and Jarusha Lance Israel. Survived by daughters Mrs R H Tucker and Miss Vandia Ingram, son A C Ingram, two sisters Mrs Henry Taylor and Mrs David Baker, and a brother C B R Israel. Funeral Saturday at 4 PM from the home with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
