Le Brix and Doret take off from Le Bourget aiming to break the 4,909 mile Paris to Moulart record set by Coste and Bellonte. The 6,000 mile Paris to Tokyo leg is their target as crowds gather and plans unfold at dawn.
Dr. D. H. Gambrell, Fall’s physician in El Paso, urged Justice Bailey to sentence Albert B. Fall to the New Mexico State penitentiary rather than El Paso jail due to ill health and better facilities. Bailey refused to suspend the one year jail term for accepting a $100,000 bribe from Edward L. Doheny, cementing Fall’s defeat in escaping imprisonment.
Chancellor Bruening and cabinet members held an all night session to avert a financial crash. Bankers were summoned to the chancellery amid reports of Washington discussions and possible currency seizures. Wichita Kans July 11 Immediate shutdown of about 22 000 Kansas oil wells was agreed by over 800 independent operators to protest crude prices that fall 10 to 22 cents a barrel. The move, tied to a mid continent strike, could idle 30 000 workers with wells producing roughly 102 000 barrels daily. Wells with water injection are excluded to avoid damage. some will stay on pump. A follow up meeting will set final details.
The Danish government announced it would file a complaint at The Hague over Norway's claim to eastern Greenland. A sharp protest was also sent to Oslo. Prime Minister Stauning said the Norwegian flag planting already worsened relations, amid intense public feeling.
In Central Falls Rhode Island on July 11 Polish American citizens failed to take leadership of a strike at the General Fabrics Corporation Mill from communists. Police patrolled quiet streets while the strike committee did not appear for talks. Anna Berlac of the National Textile Workers Union urged the strikers to avoid politician mediated settlement. Plans formed for a citizens committee and a mass union meeting to resolve the dispute.
President Hoover and Vice President Curtis joined at Camp Hoover near Camp Luray Virginia for a weekend rest. Curtis arrived from Kansas before lunch while Hoover spent the morning at his cabin handling routine work amid ongoing negotiations with France on the war debt proposal.
Lexington July 11. The first cotton bloom in Davidson county was brought to this city by R. L. Leonard of South Lexington. The bloom appeared on a stalk over two feet tall from a small field Leonard owns where no fertilizer was used.
Dr. Daniel E. Poling urged 10 000 delegates at the International Society of Christian Endeavor convention to mobilize youth for education and enlistment of prohibition supporters, while stressing broader issues such as poverty, jobs, savings, and world peace. He urged leadership by American youth and warned that delay invites disaster.
Albert Einstein and Thomas Mann were among four signers of a cablegram received by Governor Miller in Berlin. The note urged executive clemency for eight Africans condemned to death for attacking two white girls.
Washington reports discuss mobilizing American financial power to aid Germany amid distress under the Bruening government. Officials outline three possible methods, including Fed credits to the Reichsbank and private banker credits, with the Fed acting independently of the presidency.
New York July 11 youths Seth Yerrington and Edward Maloney postponed their takeoff for Mexico City until tomorrow at 5 am EB 8 T after fueling delays left less than half of 560 gallons loaded. The flight, planned as a dress rehearsal for a trans Atlantic attempt, was delayed from 6 o'clock due to earlier hitch.

Katherine Macdonald once called American Beauty sues Christian N Holmes for divorce in Santa Barbara charging cruelty. She seeks custody of an 18 month old daughter, $15,000 legal fees and an accounting of property. She alleges he fired shots at her and pressed a lit cigarette in her hand in Honolulu. She also accuses him of heavy drinking in recent months.
The state supreme court denied the petition of Daisy de Boe, convicted of grand theft from Clara Bow, for a rehearing on her habeas corpus writ. File date July 11.
Covington farmer Guy Failrey was convicted of murdering federal prohibition agent Homer L. Everett. The jury deliberated under an hour and the verdict carries the death sentence. Everett’s vehicle plunged from a bridge into a creek on May 2 near Collins, Mississippi, as he headed to Jackson to testify before a federal grand jury. Failrey’s son-in-law William Fairley had pleaded guilty and testified that Failrey killed Everett after being warned by the agent about prohibition violations.
