Guilford County Adopts Lower Tax Rate and Honors Dr Buie
The Guilford County Board of Commissioners set a new county tax rate at 98 cents to enable a two percent prepayment discount for July. Tax Collector Hes ter reported 97.23 percent of the levy collected last year, a slight drop from 97.54. The board commended Dr. R. M. Buie for 24 years leading the Health Board as he steps down, to be replaced by a unified county unit while he remains as a half time physician. Dr. Ellinwood welcomed the consolidation and noted ongoing school health program improvements amid staffing limits and funding concerns.
