Mars Hill president to lead services at First Baptist

The Rev. Hoyt Blackwell president of Mars Hill College and veteran Baptist minister will conduct both services at First Baptist Church tomorrow. Ralph Martin announced the plan and notes Blackwell’s extensive education at Mars Hill Wake Forest Southern Baptist Seminary Yale Edinburgh and University of Edinburgh.

Youth Rally to Back ABC Store Stand at First Baptist

High Point youths will meet Thursday night at First Baptist Church to take a stand on ABC stores. Max Meeks of United Dry Forces will chair the event with speaker Richard Crowder pastor of St James Methodist Church in Charlotte and leaders from Green St East First Presbyterian and High Point Friends Meeting. The 7 30 p m rally aims to mobilize high school and college age residents for organized action on the issue.

Lebanon Methodist Church Opens New Educational Building

Members moved into the new educational building at Fisher and Idol Streets this week. A covered dish supper closed the move Wednesday night in the recreation hall. The first worship service is planned for Sunday morning in the hall, which will serve as sanctuary until a church structure is erected. Rev. J. S. Gibbs is pastor.

Attaches Dispute Settled Between U S and Russia

The United States quietly settled a diplomatic dispute with Russia over three American Army officers expelled from the Soviet Union. Integration On Golf Links To Be Sought

The NAACP says the Supreme Court will be asked to end segregation at Atlanta public golf courses. J H Calhoun, acting president of the NAACP Atlanta branch, states a decision requiring city admission for Negroes while permitting ongoing segregation will be appealed. Four Atlanta Negroes originally filed the suit seeking equal access to courses.

Washington. Allen Whitfield's nomination to the Atomic Energy Commission faced withdrawal requests from Jerday of Des Moines and a Senate House panel inquiry that has cost thousands of dollars. Creedmoor Dry Chairman Gets Three-Year ABC Reappointment

Governor Hodges announces the reappointment of Thomas W. Allen as chairman of the North Carolina Board of Alcoholic Control for a term ending April 23, 1958.
