Bees Capture Rescue by Five Men in May Incident
In May last year a swarm of German bees dangled 23 feet above ground at L. E. Klutts Otteray drive. City Attorney Grover H. Jones led a five-man team including Hobart Ferree Tom Kearns Bruce Carraway and J M Clary to trap the bees using a ladder rope and sack. The plan faltered as the ladder slipped but Jones leaped clear and the group scattered. Jones later captured the bees and delivered part of the honey adding a verse to honor the helpers. A chamber pamphlet lists 175 manufacturing concerns and 18 years after youth drafts were registered.

War materials exhibit moves from High Point to Raleigh for state display
High Point materials collected by the local employment office will travel to Raleigh to join a statewide exhibit. The display will be housed temporarily in state fairground buildings and later moved to the state museum once a new building is erected. State fairs are banned for wartime, so the fairgrounds serve as the exhibit location in the interim.
