Early today two passenger trains on the North Carolina and St. Louis Road collided injuring many and destroying both locomotives. Newspaper estimates put the death toll at 35 with as many as 70 hurt, most victims reported among Black passengers.
Debris strewn around the Nashville area after a crash of trains No. 1 and No. 4 near Bell Meade park. Officials fear up to 70 killed and 50 to 75 injured, many of them African American passengers. Pullman cars largely unharmed as wreck crews and volunteers battle fires and search for survivors.
The Wrightsville Beach board of aldermen passed a drastic bathing suit law after a complaint registration. A mermaid who violates the new ordinance faces a ten dollar fine.

A Chicago boy captured by German raiders in the Toul sector escaped by dropping a grenade in a shell hole. The explosion killed one captor while another fled toward Berlin. the youth returned home unharmed with the two hand grenades still in his possession.
Philadelphia July. Oscar Felsch White Sox outfielder seeks a steel plant team berth. He wired for a position and is joined by Buck Weaver Wal ter Holke and Mule Watson who also inquired. Felsch played a Polish team Saturday in Milwaukee after wiring Bethlehem club earlier.
