A Negro sportswriter says no organized boycott backing exists for the Wallace Smith of Cincinnati vs Joe Brown of New Orleans bout set for Aug 10 in New Orleans. Commission Denies Middleweight Title Bout in Los Angeles
The State Athletic Commission in San Francisco rejected a proposed middleweight title fight between Sugar Ray Robinson and Art Aragon planned for August 25 at the Rose Bowl Pasadena. The unanimous decision cited a "palpable mismatch" in weight and ability, despite Aragon's strong drawing power and Covey's argument that he had proven his ability. Robinson would be guaranteed about $110,000 without television and possibly $150,000 if telecast.
