Delaware Bus Riders Spoiled by Free First Week Ride
In Wilmington a Delaware Bus Company's 5:12 p.m. Chester service treated riders to no fares, a corsage on the meter, a carnation on the driver, and snacks with hostesses welcoming passengers. Richard Bennett, a company vice president, says the gesture marks the new service. Free rides last a week as service between Wilmington, Darby PA, and Chester resumes after a Southern Pennsylvania Bus Co. strike halted it. Regular rates begin Friday.

Constitution For Church Considered by United Church of Christ
The United Church of Christ general synod, meeting in Cleveland, has advanced halfway through a proposed constitution with 48 of 90 paragraphs approved by over 500 delegates from its merger bodies. Delegates defeated an effort to remove guarantees of local church autonomy, voting 356 to 184 to keep language protecting local freedom within a pyramided system. The assembly, led by Rev. Dr. James E. Wagner, emphasized that local church autonomy is inherent and modifiable only by its own action as it considers the three day agenda ending Friday.
