Homes built from rejected concrete in Decatur
In Decatur Illinois a bungalow north of town is built from discarded highway concrete pieces. Builder A M Strange, inspired in 1948 by stone walls, spent hours assembling a frame and covering it with oil paper. He hauled concrete in a car, using stones gathered on family trips for a fireplace mantle. The piece also notes miscellaneous facts about weasels, fleas, carp in irrigation ditches, opal water content, and a remark on racial minorities.
