Three special troop trains passed through High Point this morning carrying Virginia national guardsmen to Brownsville Texas. The first train arrived at 3 45, the second at 4 15 and the third about 6 oclock with 12 coaches of militiamen and several cars of supplies and ammunition.

Clarence Burns, 13, son of Mr and Mrs A L Burns, underwent surgery for appendicitis this morning at High Point hospital. He is reported this afternoon to be as well as could be expected.

Washington July 7 Mr Lee PD Robinson Democratic nominee for Centreas in the seventh district says he will win by a safe majority despite Republican efforts to nominate ex Sheriff Brown of Wilkes. Representative Page says Democrats will carry the seventh, noting local county tickets may spur Democratic turnout.
Raucheman July 7. A hundred gallon still and 1500 gallons of beer were captured in Providence township Randolph county by Deputy Sheriffs Steed Baker and Lassiter. Will Nunnery King found at the scene escaped. Siler taken to jail at Ashboro. This is the first still captured in the county.
Jesse J. Gray died Wednesday morning at his home two miles west of the city after a four month illness from pleurisy. He was 31 and survived by his father G. W. Gray and several brothers. A native of Yadkin county North Carolina he was a farmer and member of the Junior Order and the Sons and Daughters of Liberty. Funeral services were held at Fairfield with members of the High Point lodge and the Sons and Daughters of Liberty in attendance.
The weather bureau reports the storm center over northern Mississippi with a tendency toward northeast movement. The storm is diminishing in strength as it tracks inland along the Gulf Coast region.
London reports capture of a German trench about 1090 yards east of La Boiselle in the Somme region. The announcement states fresh progress by British forces on the front, with continued trench gains amid ongoing fighting.
