The Fourth of July Reflections and Porky Plans

A reflective piece on holiday observance marked by a wary view of traditional revelry. The narrator jokes about pigs, chickens, rabbits, goats as pets, and recalls childhood chores with a gentle humor. He notes meat prices rise and tempers the urge to slaughter pets with humane reflections. He also teases a Sunday reading of Mr. Bivins and Mr. Hook, linking astrology to gardening lore with a sly joke about a rolling pin.
