Government to condemn vast stock of stolen spurious whiskey
Federal officials plan to condemn 482 barrels and 1955 cases of spurious bonded medicinal liquor found in the Sibley warehouse in Chicago. Investigators say 39,000 gallons of good whiskey aged 10 to 12 years were removed and sold at bootleg prices, with 25 to 30 people under investigation and 509 plus witnesses expected before a grand jury. The thefts involve substituted water and alcohol mixtures as substitutes for genuine whiskey.
