Burrows Repeats Girl Spoke Truth In Court

Deputy Sheriff Burrows repeated that Shirley Ann Hunt testified truthfully in September in Superior Court regarding the case of Claude Shackelford. He noted a claimed signed statement by the girl denying truth, and said the parole board plans to meet with her while Shackelford’s July 21 execution date remains.

Lexington Route 2 Resident Suffers Broken Collarbone

Billy Ray Warner age 11 of Lexington Route 2 suffered a broken collarbone and facial cuts when a 1935 pickup collided head on with a southbound auto on highway 109 one mile north of Denton. He was taken to the local hospital. two other children were in the pickup. Marvin Oscar Hancock 19 and Dallas A Ward 31 were cited for reckless driving. Ward was alone in the auto.

Jeff B. Glover 87 longtime Davidson county resident and farmer died at the home of his daughter Mrs Reece Sebastian 303 Hinkle Street Thomasville after a brief illness. Survived by his daughter and son eight grandchildren three great grandchildren and a brother a funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 30 p m at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church near Jackson Hill with interment in the church cemetery.

Ellis O Hill 59 of Thom asville Route 3 died Saturday after two years of ill health. Funeral services conducted Monday morning at Spring Hill Methodist Church by Rev A P Ratledge and Rev James A Bowman. Pallbearers named. burial in church cemetery. Flowers arranged by family friends. Mrs J W Sowers oversaw arrangements. Mixed choir sang with Mrs A P Ratledge at piano.

Seven building permits were issued by the High Point building inspector yesterday totaling 1725 dollars. Most permits covered repairs with one for garage construction. Police Blotter Bears Early Fourth of July Start

The Fourth of July blotter moved slowly with three arrests so far. Luther Kinsey, 31, of 204 English Street, jailed on a hit and run involving a car owned by Robert Lee, with Kinsey in custody. Carey Lee Matthews, 27, was released on $500 bond after a drunken driving arrest.

High Point Woman To Be Honored At Brown Family Reunion

Mrs. R. J. Riggs of High Point will be honored at a Brown family reunion Saturday at the Community House in Rockingham. Relatives from Columbia and Rock Hill South Carolina and from Gastonia and Rockingham are expected, with 75 to 100 attendees. The event marks a reunion after long separation since the family’s early years.

Mrs Hussey Receives Long California Prison Term

The wife of Billy Hussey once of High Point denied probation for burglary in California drew a sentence from one to 14 years in a California women's prison. Jacqueline Hussey and her husband are sought by High Point police in widespread entering activity. Burlington, Thomasville, Lexington, Salisbury and Greensboro units also hold charges. Billy Hussey already ordered to five years in San Quentin. After current terms, they face local court on further charges.

Expectant Mother Foils Break-In Attempt

In Clinton on July 4 Sheriff Perry B. Lockerman recounted how pregnant Mrs. J. B. Byrd blocked a break-in by Luther Calvin, 33, who fled after she held the door. Byrd’s husband pursued, a shotgun-wounding Calvin in the knee as he hid in bushes. The sheriff said Calvin faced charges of attempted assault and breaking in. Mrs. Byrd later gave birth to a child.
