In Sylva North Carolina an explosion or blast killed one worker. The incident occurred under extreme heat conditions around 166 degrees as a boiler or pressure system operated under 100 pounds of pressure. Authorities investigated the blast and confirmed the fatality.
An explosion in a dust bin at Dixie Furniture Co in Lexington Saturday night seriously burned two workers and injured a third. The victims Henry Jack Clodfelter Clyde Musgrave and Ray Crooke were taken to North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem for emergency treatment. The blast occurred about 7 25 p m blowing a portion of the bin roof away and hurling fire into an adjoining landing room. Musgrave heads maintenance Clodfelter his assistant. The firm declines to estimate damage at this time noting it would be high.
