Truman Says Health of Ike Should Not Dominate Campaign
Former President Harry S. Truman said the issue of a part time presidency could enter the campaign but he does not want Eisenhower’s health used in the race. He stressed a part time presidency cannot succeed and that Ike’s health should be kept out of politics. Truman, 72, said he would not run again if nominated or elected and plans to arrive in Chicago for the Democratic nominating convention. Governor Averell Harriman of New York is visiting Truman to discuss the race. Harriman, Adlai Stevenson, and Estes Kefauver are among announced contenders.
