Aerial reports place hurricane devastation across Cameron Louisiana as mass burials begin. A 150 foot trench holds 47 coffins while officials estimate multimillion damage to crops livestock and petroleum properties. Authorities warn Cameron remains uninhabitable for weeks.

General economic aid was set at 275 million dollars, near Eisenhower’s request.
The will of Cherry, who died June 25 in Gaston Memorial Hospital, leaves most of the estate to his widow Mildred Staf ford Cherry of Greensboro. It also makes $6000 to half-brother William Brevard Cherry of Catawba and $2000 to former governor’s secretary Anna Goforth Leathers. The will, dated April 6 1957, suggests consulting the State Archives and History Department in Raleigh and Duke University over Cherry's books.

She found a cave and water, used rocks to groom herself, ate few cactus berries, and kept track of days with rocks. Her husband, Clifford, 51, died from heat exhaustion during the search. Civil Air Patrol and river riders aided the rescue after air and ground search efforts.
