Newsman Griffin buried in Charlotte interment set

Raleigh report notes Harry Leigh Griffin, former Charlotte News and Observer employee, died in Greenville South Carolina. Interment in Sharon Memorial Park to follow. Griffin had been public relations director for the Labor Department Wage and Hour division in the Southeast since 1949 with Birmingham headquarters.

Thailand Revolt Collapses Amid Air Force Attack

A naval revolt against Premier Phibun’s government collapsed under air force strikes and army tanks. The U.S. said insurgent HQs were seized as loyal forces attacked in Bangkok, with civilians fleeing and the rebel leadership led by Lt. Gen. Luang Kach Songgram besieged. Plane wreckage found on Hague's Peak after DC-6 crash

Six children were aboard the United Airlines DC-6 when it crashed into Hague's Peak. Search efforts recovered fragments of the aircraft, and investigators worked to determine the fate of the 50 people on board.
