Debarkation Routine Ensures Fast Troop Transfer to Camp
Units assign permanent baggage parties to stay with stowed baggage until arrival at the camp, possibly a week after the unit. Troops receive rations as food and water may be unavailable en route. Guards warn against aiding the Axis through language or habit differences. Debarkation is tightly scheduled with deck assignments, Red Cross treats, and rapid train departures toward the camp. Postcards from the voyage trace the nine troops heading to the front.
