Peele paid 345 dollars for the grand champion sow shown by Four Oaks Farm of Lexington South Carolina. The gift sold during the Care en Berkshire Show and Sale at the State Fair Grounds yesterday.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol plans to acquire 150 new patrol cars in silver and black. Bids opened by the Division of Purchase and Contract show Chevrolet Division of General Motors as low bidder at 1,306.18 dollars per car, with about 75 dollars more per unit for special equipment.
Grady Southern of Winston-Salem will head the board of trustees for another year. He was re elected with all 1952 officers at a quarterly meeting. McGraw of Charlotte is vice president. The board approved a budget of 1,421,779 dollars, higher than last year.
In Raleigh A front page note reports that eleven Republican lawmakers including two senators and 14 House members urged North Carolina party leaders to establish a policy for endorsements of federal jobs. They passed a resolution calling for a meeting with the State Republican Executive Committee and Rep. Charles R. Jonas.
The North Carolina Architectural Foundation met in Raleigh to assess its finances and the year’s achievements at North Carolina State College School of Design. The foundation supplements the state salary scale to attract top teachers and architects for the school.

Tar Heel engineers close day one of their annual convention by installing Carroll Mann Jr of Greensboro as president here tonight. He will succeed Hamilton E. Hicks of Wilmington, chief of the civil works design branch of the Army's Corps of Engineers for North Carolina.
Dr. Carl McIntire leader of the International Council of Christian Churches told about 1,200 people at a protest in Winston-Salem that a new reformation is needed to combat what he called a threat posed by the Revised Standard Version. He criticized the Bible version and motives of its sponsor, the National Council of Churches of Christ in the U. S. A.
The State Highway Commission under the Umstead administration reviewed low bids totaling 1 615 059 for 12 highway projects. The work covers 108.03 miles and includes two structures with relocation of U S 70 in Guilford County from Whitsett to U S 421 south of Greensboro.
The North Carolina legislature enacted a bill replacing the single state paroles commissioner with a three member State Paroles Board. The measure, supported unanimously in both chambers, assigns final parole authority to the new board and permits staggered terms. The plan faced press scrutiny over parole files access.
