Stringfield to appear in Chapel Hill concert

LaMar Stringfield, native Tar Heel flutist and composer, will give a public concert at Playmakers Theatre in Chapel Hill on Friday January 30 at 8 30 pm. He will be assisted by Adeline McCall D A McPherson and the University Faculty Chamber Orchestra. Program includes flute solos and trios plus Stringfield’s Indian Sketches and Southern Mountain Suite, with the latter winning a Pulitzer Prize. Stringfield promotes folk root music of the Southern mountains and argues jazz is spurious and Negro music distorts deeper Anglo Saxon sources. He aims to bring this authentic American music to artistic completion locally. An interesting feature of the concert tomorrow night is expected.
