Texas outlaw slain by U S Treasurer’s Mate in Kansas
In a Topeka incident Texas bandit Gene Ross Las, implicated in mail theft and robbery, was shot to death by Andrew Gray whose wife Georgia Neese Gray, then U S treasurer, defended their home. The Gray home had been targeted in a Jan 2 raid. Police tracked two accomplices, recovered gear, and investigated a second vehicle used in the escape. Ross’s death ends a night of pursuit as investigators connect the members to an earlier safe-cracking at the Gray grocery in Topeka.
