UCYM sponsored Youth Week highlights Christian unity and fellowship under the 1955 theme One Fellowship in Christ. Projects include plays, inter-church visitation, and fellowship events to bridge gaps, serve the unloved, and strengthen youth cooperation across churches.
The quadrennial Southwide convocation of the Methodist Church begins in Charlotte Tuesday, with over 1,000 delegates from nine southeastern states and Cuba attending. Bishop Arthur J. Moore chairs the jurisdictional council, as sessions cover women’s service, education, finance and missions, plus quadrennial reports from Dr. George E. Clary Sr. and Rev. James W. Sells. Delegates represent 2,514,000 Methodists in 12,000 churches across Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Virginia, and surrounding areas.
Emmanuel Lutheran Church will be represented by Pastor Rev Harry Hawthorne and others at the Piedmont District Brotherhood meeting of Lutheran Churches of North Carolina tomorrow. The gathering starts at 3 PM at Grove Lutheran Church in Lexington with guest speaker Dr Voight K Cromer president of Lenoir Rhyne College. Local member G Ray Ralls presides over Piedmont Brotherhood.

The broadcast quoted in Peoples Daily called a cease-fire unacceptable and said Taiwan must be liberated. Eisenhower secured congressional approval to use forces to defend Formosa and the Pescadores.
Washington plans to hold a formal hearing in the House Armed Services Committee on the Navy request to fund a fifth super aircraft carrier. Chairman Vinson said the committee will provide moral support, while opposition emerges in the Appropriations Committee led by Representative Cannon. The Navy seeks a new general authorization for a 10 million ton fleet modernization, with a 60,000 ton carrier similar to the USS Forrestal costing about 200 million dollars.

President Eisenhower departs the White House on the Columbine for a week end vacation at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia after signing the Formosa resolution. Secretary Dulles to take a brief respite with a fishing trip to the Bahamas. Hagerty says two days of complete rest and no visitors. Mrs. Eisenhower remains in Washington.
