Four-Minute Mile Foreseen by Cunningham
Dr. Glenn Cunningham, once the king of the milers and now Cornell College athletics director, predicts a four minute mile soon as up-and-coming runners may break the barrier. He notes factors of speed, endurance, pace judgment, and mental drive, and cites Gunder Haegg’s 4 04.6 outdoor mark as a benchmark while stressing a competitive, crowded race to achieve the goal. Fort Matanzas National Monument welcomed 19,205 visitors in 1940.
