A coroner's jury had been investigating the case and a new handwriting expert study was sought after a note bearing Leota's name was found. Authorities believe the note was planted to misdirect, and say Leota could not have written it under the described circumstances. The adoptive parents Warwick and Mrs Tilley were named in the investigation. The inquest was set to resume Saturday.

One Slain As Miners And Officers Battle
In Pikeville Kentucky a clash between deputy sheriffs and Edgewater Coal miners at Henry Clay mine left one man dead and another wounded. County officials mobilized 15 National Guard members as special deputies and sent them to Marrowbone Creek mine where 600 workers are employed. The confrontation began after 50 to 75 shots were fired as miners entered the workings.
