Cotton Opens Steady Amid Early Declines in New York
New York cotton opened with a 2 to 4 point decline as May and October futures slid to 47.16 and 17.44, then stabilized near yesterday’s close. Trade buying and covering helped check the drop, while late morning selling drove prices to new seasonal lows on near term and longer contracts. Liverpool and Bombay activity added pressure, with rumors of farm board bids in Houston not reversing the downtrend. New Orleans opened erratically with scattered losses before extending the fluctuations.
