Funeral Sunday for Lafayette Lambert After Train Death

Lafayette Lambert a 14 year old of Broad Street and Virginia avenue died Friday afternoon near the Southern railway passenger shed after riding a local freight for about 100 feet and being crushed under the wheels. Eye witnesses described his fall and grievous injuries as the body was mangled along the track. Funeral services are set for Sunday at 3 o'clock from St Mary’s Episcopal Church with Archdeacon Hardin and Rev L W Blackwelder in charge.

Believe Barring Was Given Liberty and Not Lynched

In Hiawassee Georgia on January 29 three men who seized Jeke Darring from the jail and claimed they would lynch him were described by Marshal Barnes as friends of Darring. Barnes said the act did not prove lynching and authorities were seeking Barring alive rather than his body. Darring is jailed on a charge connected to the killing of Lee Allen White.

Boy Loses Eye After Air Rifle Accident

Clayton Meredith lost an eye when Wesley Jameson’s air rifle pellet struck him in the left eye during a shooting game at High Point hospital. Dr J Reitzeli performed the operation to remove the eye after the pellet was located behind the eye socket. Clayton rests well after the surgery.

Haynes Held For The Superior Court In Whisky Case

Clarence Haynes white is in the city jail awaiting trial in High Point municipal court charged with having liquor for sale after officers seized 20 gallons from a trunk at the Southern baggage station. He was bound over to Guilford County Superior Court on a $500 bond for possession for sale. Ed Ingram the driver faced charges but was not bound over. The two men underwent separate preliminary hearings. Haynes faces Monday municipal court trial while the double prosecution proceeds in different courts. The state argued Ingram possessed liquor to establish a prima facie case. legal representatives included Roberson Earnhardt Smith for the state, Zollicoffer for Haynes, and L B Williams for Ingram.

Street Car Collides With Wiss Kola Wagon Injures Man

At 2 o clock this afternoon a street car on Chestnut street struck the Wiss Kola delivery wagon as it crossed the track. Ed Manzo was injured and knocked unconscious briefly but recovered. Mr Mivnyo suffered head bruises but no serious harm expected.
