ITT Chile funding under scrutiny amid Senate findings
Justice Department lawyers question Harold Geneen and other ITT witnesses over possible inconsistencies with Senate intelligence committee records on ITT funds to Chilean campaigns. A staff report cites CIA involvement and about 350000 dollars passed to Alessandri's campaign, while OPIC reviews ITT insurance settlement after confiscation. Senators Helms and Morgan opposed Bush CIA nomination. Bush later approved 64 to 27. Helms also cautioned about Congress knowing the agency’s so called dirty tricks.
