POWs Pay For Free License Plates After Billing Change
In Raleigh AP a halt to free POW license tags was ordered and those who already received plates will be billed 15 dollars each. State motor vehicles commissioner Edward L. Powell said the policy arose from an erroneous reading of a 1975 law, and about 2,500 former POWs statewide could face more than 26 thousand dollars in lost revenue. Disabled veterans still get one free plate.
