Charles B. Rice of Springfield killed himself at home this morning at six o clock by a .22 rifle bullet. He had been in poor health since a December 10 1944 hit and run on Fairfield road and was hospitalized in Winston-Salem before returning home. Surviving: wife Clara Melton four daughters Helen Huff Grace Thomas Iris Elli Dorothy Rice three sons Carl Chester Odis one sister Lula Vanhoy three brothers Albert James John. Funeral Sunday at Springfield church at two with interment in the church cemetery.
