Food Marketing Profits Align With Industry Averages
NCSU economists in the Tar Heel Economist report that the rising food marketing bill from 40 billion in 1958 to 92 billion in 1974 shows profits of marketing firms remain a modest share of the total. They note costs rose with inflation, but shares to farmers rose to 43 percent by 1974, while retailers faced mixed returns and observed A and P store losses in 1974.
