Strollers On River Ice Block Barges

Captain W A Boudreaux drove 12 barges of fuel toward Pittsburgh on the Ohio River despite a Sunday crowd strolling on the ice between Cincinnati and Covington. The City of Pittsburgh cracked the ice 105 feet wide and 1,100 long as pedestrians challenged the towboat. Police on both sides said they lacked jurisdiction on the river, leaving the situation unresolved.
