Archdale residents will soon buy city license plates for the first time after incorporation last year. The new tags bring an added expense and a recall of the lines, forms, and non acceptance of checks as residents visit offices during the annual tag period.

Dr Ronald L Cox urged High Point Kiwanis to back a local high capability cardiac care unit at High Point Memorial Hospital to bring treatment within two hours of onset. He noted fewer patients reach Duke Hospital's myocardial infarction unit and stressed staff training and electronic monitoring as key, with emphasis on self care and risk factors.

Man shot by off duty officer at Clara Cox Apartments

Tyron Allen of Clara Cox Apartments was shot in the upper chest Friday night after attacking Officer J B Crosby with a butcher knife. Allen listed in satisfactory condition at High Point Memorial Hospital. Crosby, off duty, took the shotgun from Allen. A warrant charged Allen with assault with a deadly weapon. Officer W R Thomas was cut, needing 17 stitches, while arresting Gene L Turner for disturbing the peace. Five youths were arrested for a break in at the 7 Day Mart on E Russell Street and for a related restaurant entry. Additional shoplifting arrests and thefts reported, including bicycle and battery thefts, plus several other Friday arrests for trespassing, assault with a deadly weapon, and DWI.

Greensboro Delegation Sees Pulverizer Trash Machines

A High Point Guilford delegation, with Guilford County officials, toured Mobile Alabama and Albuquerque New Mexico to inspect pulverizing trash units. They learned the devices reduce garbage to dust like material, cut storage space, and may produce bricks or erosion barriers, with no odor and no methane.

Five Sentenced in Sherman District Court

One man waived preliminary hearing on a possession of stolen property case linked to a Ballinger Sporting Goods break in. Alfred Baldwin received 18 months for larceny of a hubcap and Charles Hopkins got six months for assault with a deadly weapon. Five others, plus a man bound over to superior court, received active sentences for public drunkenness, disturbing the peace, or related offenses.

Bowles Proposes Environmental Constitutional Amendment
