Arrowheads Form Unique Art By Vernon Thompson
Clarence Holt Thompson of Wise North Carolina uses thousands of arrowheads and spearheads mounted on wood to form two life-size Indian figures and a buffalo titled Rival Chiefs and The Indian s Best Friend. The works took about 12 to 24 months and 2000 to 2200 stones, finished nearly twenty years ago, and remain in good condition. He plans a future project reproducing The End of the Trail with stone relics, using over 5000 pieces to portray a life-size Indian on a horse, potentially spanning an entire wall of his home. Thompson, a tobacco worker and writer, gathers relics from his Warren County farm and Saint-Sing farm historic sites, and he aims to document Wise Baptist Church history after completing more arrowhead art.
