London broadcasts marked the formal proclamation of Edward VIII as king. Heralds declared him defender of the faith as 41 gun salutes rang out and wireless links carried the ceremony to 600 million subjects. Edward appeared briefly at a balcony window as carriages and lifeguards accompanied the procession.
The commerce department reports 1935 ended with a favorable trade balance of 234.226 million dollars, down 50 percent from 1934.
