Denaturants Not Cause of Death in Alcohol
Washington January 21 AP Prohibition officials rejected congress members’ claim denaturants in industrial alcohol caused deaths. They said most drink-related fatalities stem from alcoholic poisoning due to overconsumption, not a specific poison. Officials noted wood alcohol plants are state supervised and the federal gov ernment has no control. James M. Dor an ordered poisons removed. only seven of 47 denaturants used wood alcohol now. In fiscal 1929 about 9 million gallons removed from bond contained 10 percent wood alcohol. 42 million had 1 percent.
