Economic Slowdown Reported
The Commerce Department reports 1973 growth slowed late in the year with 4th quarter GNP up 1.3 percent, inflation at 7.9 percent. Full year inflation reached 5.2 percent as factory output slipped in December. Personal income rose 10.3 percent to about 1.04 trillion, while inventories climbed 1.5 percent in November amid uneven sales gains. Some gas producers reportedly sought to buy reserves to curb market supply and push prices higher.
