In Washington D C the Reconstruction Corporation reports 1984 net earnings of 20 008 017 dollars and urges Congress to grant authority to bolster the real estate mortgage market and aid Poets in reorganizing.
A state committee outlines a plan to extend electricity to up to 50 000 rural residents via about 9000 miles of line. The proposed bill would create the North Carolina rural electrification commission with authority to issue bonds up to 10 million dollars, not a state obligation or appropriation. The commission would finance build and operate transmission and distribution to farmers and others currently without service.
In Saarbrucken the Nazi grip tightened six days after a plebiscite victory as Hitler loyalists seized control of the basin’s governing machinery. Although violence was minimal, anti Nazi figures faced fear driven reports and many advised departure until stability returns. Clinton North Carolina January 19. Ames Hargrove a negro sought for attacking a young white woman near here was arrested today by Sampson county officers after bloodhounds led them to relatives. The woman identified him as the intruder who broke into her home and attempted to assault her. He was taken to an undisclosed location for precautionary measures and will have a preliminary hearing before a magistrate on Wednesday.
Rain and warmer conditions expected Sunday and Monday with a cold snap Monday night. Weather bureau records show temperatures and rainfall in principal growing areas and surroundings for the last 24 hours ending 8 P M in the Washington area.
