Woman Continues On Trial In Drowning of Children
The trial of Ene Debusk, a 41 year old woman, continued before an all male jury in Winston-Salem. Prosecutors seek the death penalty for the alleged drowning of Iva Lee Debusk six months old and Charles Franklin Debusk two in Salem Creek in March 1950. Sheriff Ernie testified Debusk admitted the killings and planned to drown a third child, Ruby Lee Debusk, but said she did not wish to finish her own life. A Raleigh psychiatrist testified Debusk has been sane and capable of standing trial since 1951. Debusk’s husband testified she bore nine children and suffered headaches prior to the drownings. Debusk’s father testified there have been seven family cases, noting genetic or hereditary factors.
