Italian troops repelled a Piave attack on January 19 1918 at the Cape Sile bridgehead and forced Austrian withdrawal to new lines. Earlier French actions on December 31 1917 retook Monte Tomba summit and took 1109 prisoners amid heavy casualties. A mid January French push advanced four miles east along the Piave toward Querci.
