Clothing shortage blamed for measles outbreak at Camp Sevier
At Camp Sevier Greenville South Carolina a wartime clothing shortage contributed to an epidemic of measles and pneumonia. A War Department report shows on November 30 only about one fifteenth of the 26475 men had woolen breeches or coats. Supplies arrived late and many units lacked proper winter clothing though later shipments increased winter underwear and woolen socks.
