Sanford Man Leads Three-County Chase in Airborne Escape Attempt

Sanford resident Carl Dewey Stone, 32, led deputies across Randolph Moore and Montgomery counties after attempted to strike Deputy John Efird during service of warrants. Efird was injured and Stone was captured in Montgomery County then returned to Randolph County Jail where he attempted to escape before booking. Bond awaiting hearing on charges including assault with a deadly weapon and hit and run.

Fire at Furniture Industries plant minor blaze briefed

Fire crews answered a 4 30 p m alarm at Furniture Industries Plant B on Fisher Ferry Street. Investigation found dust on the elevator shaft ceiling ignited by sparks from a cable to the elevator. The fire, described as minor, was extinguished quickly.
